You know how when you just move to LA and you have some friends but not a ton of friends and what friends you do have are gone for the holidays and you’re just hanging out on a Saturday alone feeling sorry for yourself because you haven’t been invited to any holiday parties and all of your friends in New York are going to eight holiday parties a day and it doesn’t even feel like Christmas here so you compile a list of your favorite names of WNBA players? You know how that happens? It’s such a cliche, I know, and everyone has their own list, but this is mine. It also occurs to me that a fun game could be WNBA Player or 17th Century Sea Captain?:

My friend and fellow McSweeney’s contributer Teddy Wayne wrote this. That is, he wrote to a “woman” named Claire Anrie who friend-ed him on Facebook, and “she” wrote back. It’s hilarious. One of my favorite exchanges in it is this:
Teddy Wayne: Come to New York! We have many restaurants, discotheques, nightclubs.
Claire Anrie: can you accommodate me?
Teddy Wayne: Of course!
Claire Anrie: do you think is proper fro you to do that
Teddy Wayne: Why not? We have known each other only a short time, but I feel I already know you well in some ways.
Claire Anrie: – am so much in love with you
– am cool
– i like a guy who knows how to treat a lady
Teddy Wayne: I would buy you concert tickets, stereo, red dress.
